How Swimming Improves Mood and Relaxation
Did you know swimming has been proven by the CDC to improve mental health? As a Floridian, I am blessed to be able to live in weather where I can go swimming all year ‘round. Swimming in the water boosts “happy chemicals” in the brain such as endorphins and serotonin. Yesterday, I went swimming at my friend’s pool in Boca Raton and had an absolute blast!
I have worn this bathing suit, a Lilly Pulitzer bathing suit my mom gave me from TJ Maxx, many times; it is one of my favorites! The gorgeous bathing suit was such an amazing find. I have owned it for years.
I have loved swimming my whole life. I was on the swim team when I was a kid; my favorite stroke was the breast stroke. Swimming really does help me feel relaxed and joyful, like a mermaid! For me, swimming is one of my favorite ways to cope with anxiety. I love to snorkel and swim in the ocean. The water makes me feel amazing.
According to My Swim Pro, a blog by Taylor Holmes, swimming improves your memory. Isn’t that cool? (Holmes, 2022) Scientists say that swimming creates new brain cells! Isn’t that amazing?! Scientists are not quite sure yet why. Maybe it’s because our bodies are made of water? To me, water makes me feel so relaxed, happy and free!
Swimming is self-care that improves mental health and well-being in so many different ways. It is the perfect de-stresser after a long day of work, school, chores, ect. Swimming in the pool is amazing therapy for kids as well as adults. Growing up, my family and I would always go to the pool for quality time. Since I was a small child, I dreamed of being a mermaid and escaping into the beautiful blue ocean.
Having healthy and relaxing hobbies such as swimming is a huge part of being mentally fit. It is so important to take time to relax every now and then and focus on wellness, work-life balance, and self-care. Swimming is one of my all favorite self-care activities that boosts my energy and joy. What are some of yours?
Love,
Lexie
